The effective altruist, Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder and CEO of the FTX exchange, said in a podcast on Tuesday that he may give up to $1 billion to stop trump’s comeback in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

The multibillionaire crypto entrepreneur stated in an interview on the Pushkin podcast “What’s Your Problem?”, host Jacob Goldstein, that he would spend “moreover $100 million” on future political campaigns. According to him, this record-breaking amount would represent a “soft ceiling” for his gifts If he was to fund the candidate against former president Donald Trump.

Bankman-Fried, an altruist worth $20 billion, gave a significant portion of his wealth to political endeavors. He already contributed $200 million of his total worth. $23 million went to a single Political Action Committee (PAC) this year

The outcomes of his political contributions have been varied. Bankman-Fried was among the major contributors to President Joe Biden’s successful 2020 campaign. Last week, his preferred candidate in an Oregon congressional primary was defeated despite receiving $11 million from the Bankman-Fried PAC.

“It will depend on who runs for the presidency in 2024,” Bankman-Fried said in the interview. “I’m going to be looking a lot less at the political party from that perspective and a lot more about sane governance.”
