Bayer, a global enterprise with main interests in the life science fields of health care and nutrition, will soon be opening a new cyber security research and development center in Israel. And what better place in the world to go to for cyber security development.

The company is currently establishing a development center for cyber security in Israel, which will be integrated into Bayer’s global cyber unit. The center in Israel, which will be established in the company’s head offices in Hod Hasharon, will work to create collaborations with Israeli companies in the development of technologies in the cyber field, including creating connections with its branches around the world.

Israel Startup Nation is probably best known for its cyber security companies. It was the success of cyber security firm Check Point back in the 90s that played a large role in the establishment of the Startup Nation phenomenon. And many of Israel’s top computer people today served in one of the IDF’s vaunted cyber security units.

Just this week Cyolo, an Israeli cyber security startup that develops Zero Trust Network Access 2.0 (ZTNA 2.0) solutions for IT and OT, raised $60 million in a Series B round. And last week, Cyberint, an Israeli cyber security startup, raised $40 million in a Series C round of funding.

Bayer senior executives are currently in Israel to work on the plans for the new center. Their visit coincides with Cyber Week, a large annual international cybersecurity event, hosted each year at Tel Aviv University in Israel. Of course, everyone is coming to Israel for a cyber security conference.

The Bayer execs arrived in Israel following the company’s decision to establish the cyber center and the company’s desire to get to know the Israeli cyber market better. They met with the director general of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Dr. Ron Malka. During the meeting, the parties discussed plans of the Ministry of Economy for the future, such as public projects and channels and possibilities for cooperation.

According to Hugo Hagen, CEO of Nayer in Israel, “For Bayer, as a company engaged in R&D in the core areas of life sciences, the opportunity to integrate into Israel’s unique cyber ecosystem alongside innovation in medicine and agricultural development is an opportunity to integrate as players in the Israeli market and create added value for Bayer and for the ecosystem.”

Bayer is a global life sciences company, operating in three divisions – the Pharmaceuticals Division, the Agriculture Division, and the Medical Preparations Division. Bayer Israel was established in 2008 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Bayer Global Corporation and represents the three divisions and their activities. The company in Israel employs about 150 people.

Bayer, which is engaged in research and development, is traded on the stock exchanges in Frankfurt, Tokyo, New York and Italy, and employs about 100,000 people in 83 countries around the world. The company’s revenue in 2021 was about 44.1 billion euros and the volume of its investments in research and development is estimated at 5.4 billion euros.
