The threat of Climate Change to planet Earth and the future of humanity is not only very real, but it is getting worse. This was reported by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC. In this the latest report it was also reiterated that the problems are being caused by the activities of people and can only be reversed through new actions.
“This report is a dire warning about the consequences of inaction,” said Hoesung Lee, Chair of the IPCC. “It shows that climate change is a grave and mounting threat to our wellbeing and a healthy planet. Our actions today will shape how people adapt and nature responds to increasing climate risks.”

The IPCC says that the world now faces unavoidable multiple climate hazards over the next two decades. It anticipates a global warming of 1.5°C (2.7°F) in that period of toime. Even temporarily exceeding this warming level will result in additional severe impacts, some of which will be irreversible. Risks for society will increase, including to infrastructure and low-lying coastal settlements, say the experts.
So, what can be done in order to avoid mounting loss of life, biodiversity and infrastructure? The report calls for ambitious, accelerated action to adapt to climate change, at the same time as making rapid, deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. So far, progress on adaptation is uneven and there are increasing gaps between action taken and what is needed to deal with the increasing risks, the new report finds. These gaps are largest among lower-income populations.
Work on fighting against Climate Change and its ill affects has been going on for years now in Israel. Its Startup Nation high tech sector is ripe with companies that are developing new green technologies and new agricultural products. Israeli firms find ways to turn the humidity in the air into drinking water, news ways to recycle waste into new products and even use it for energy and, of course, are at the forefront of advancing renewable energies such as solar power.
And that is not all. Israeli firms are also at the forefront of developing alternatives to animal based food products. This is not just about vegetarianism. The breeding and raising of animals like chickens and cows for their meat, milk and eggs is one of the biggest contributors to climate change. Tremendous energy is used in their breeding, a great deal of food must be grown and processed for them to eat and they leave behind tons of waste every year that gets into the ecosystem and drinking water supply in many places.
Savor Eat and Redefine Meat are just a few examples of such firms.
