Actor Dustin Hoffman (L) and Lisa Gottsegen

Dustin Hoffman wasted little time in parting company with his New York apartment situated on 145-146 Central Park West, after clearing out most of his personal effects in a recent auction sale.

Dustin was  apparently happy to receive just over $21 million for the 8, 000-square-foot apartment spaced out over three floors  in the  famous San Remo co-op building, despite the fact that it had been on the market for more than 10 years at an original asking price of 22 million.

Hoffman’s apartment boasted  four bedrooms and six bathrooms and covered the 15th and 17th floors of the highest in demand building which was designed by one of the most celebrated architects of that period, Emery Roth, with construction completed late in 1929.

For more than 40 years the San Remo building housed a bank until in 1972, it was converted into a luxury  cooperative, with its  residents enjoying the highest standards of facilities. For that reason the building has become home to many celebrities in the field of entertainment and sport including, at one time or another, golfer Tiger Woods, Demi Moore, Steven Spielberg, Steve Jobs, Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Stephen Sondheim, Donna Karan, Tony Randall, Glenn Close, U2 Bono,  Bruce Willis, Trey Parker, Eddie Cantor, Aaron Spelling, Hedy Lamarr and Rita Hayworth .

While  Hoffman is remaining tight lipped about his reasons for selling the property, he certainly will not be  hard-pressed to find  somewhere to hang his hat, reportedly spending most of his time in his Brentwood, California home, while he also owns a property in London’s ultra-exclusive Kensington region  as well as  on Broad Beach in Malibu, California.

Dustin Hoffman was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.

In the mid nineteen sixties, Hoffman’s burgeoning acting skills began to capture the attention of the film industry’s casting agents, and he was handed a career building breakthrough when cast as Benjamin Braddock, the title character in 1967 film hit “The Graduate.” Although he was already thirty years old when the Graduate was made, Hoffman’s slight frame and boyish appearance, made him an ideal fit for the role.

After the success of the Graduate, Hoffman’s acting career was marked by a series of critical and  commercial successes, taking in Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, Papillon, Lenny, Marathon Man, All the President’s Men, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, Rain Man, Hook and Wag the Dog, his last major commercial success, shot in 1997.

During his rich career, Dustin Hoffman was a  nominee  for seven Academy Awards, winning two (in Kramer vs. Kramer and Rain Man),   as well as being nominated  for thirteen Golden Globes,   and winning six, as well as  four BAFTAs, three Drama Desk Awards, a Genie Award, and an Emmy Award.

Hoffman has also been the recipient of an American Film Institute Life Achievement Award in 1999, as well as being a Kennedy Center Honor prize winner last year.
