Oskar Groening, an admitted Nazi war criminal who served as a guard at the Auschwitz concentration camp was convicted of 300, 000 counts of accessory to murder by the state court in the northern German city of Lueneburg. He was sentenced to all of four years in prison.
4 years? Are they kidding? Yes he is 94 years old and not likely to live that long, but the court could have at least formally sentenced him to life.

So that’s 75, 000 murders per year in jail, or about 200 per day. That sounds like a bargain.
The man, by his own admission, eagerly joined the SS. It does not matter that he did not personally kill people and was just a clerk. People like him made the Holocaust possible. Ad they could never claim that they did not know what was going on in the camps.
Groening had recently admitted to having served as a bookkeeper at the concentration camp and in that role having been responsible for aiding in the mass murder of the Jews in the Holocaust. This put an end to a long running trial which had been delayed many times due to Groening’s poor health.
