A vacation getaway built by the Nazis in the 1930s on the Baltic coast is to get a new life. Hitler’s Colossus of Prora is being redeveloped as a modern spa and resort by Germany’s Metropole Marketing, which just released renderings of what the new location will look like.
Located on the island of Rügen, Germany, the original resort was developed between 1936 and 1939, known for its eight large buildings. But the project was never completed due to the outbreak of World War II.

The project called “Prora Solitaire” consists of two phases: “Prora Solitaire Hotel Apartments & Spa” and “Prora Solitaire Home.” “Prora Solitaire Hotel Apartments & Spa” combines the original homes 08, 09, and 10, now dilapidated concrete blocks. Named Avida, Avella, and Alando, they’ll be converted into a 5-star holiday home. Approximately 130 apartments and suites from 300 square feet to about 1100 square feet will be built there. There will also be duplexes for the whole family, overlooking the Baltic Sea with balconies, terraces, and roof terraces.

After the houses, Alando and Avella hold 89 near sold-out apartments, and there are still a few apartments in Avida. In addition to personal use, the apartments are of interest as income property.

New buyers can get a German tax break as the entire project is part of a government sponsored renovation program.
But the real question is: Who would want to live in a place so closely associated with Hitler? Seventy years since the end of World War II, has enough time passed for people to be able to move on (in)?
