Syrian Kurds Battle IS To Retain Control Of Kobani

145 innocent civilians were murdered by Islamic State in its latest round of atrocities in civil war torn Syria, Reuters has reported. The people were killed when IS attacked the Kurdish-Syrian town Kobani and a nearby village on Friday.

The attackers reportedly infiltrated the area posing as Kurdish fighters.

IS also assaulted Syrian government held positions in the country’s northeastern city of Hasaka; 60, 000 people were reported by the United Nations to have fled the attack.

Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi appealed to all Syrians on state television saying, “I call on every man, every young woman and every young man able to carry weapons to move immediately and join the frontline positions to defend the city.”

Kurdish YPG militia spokesman Redur Xelil told Reuters that the attack was a suicide mission, just to create terror and not intended to actually capture any territory.
