David Simon, the man who brought us such hit shows like HBO’s “The Wire” and NBC’s “Homicide: Life on the Street” is planning a new program for HBO about pornography in the 1970s. But this time Simon will leave behind the familiar places of his hometown of Baltimore in favor of New York City, specifically, Times Square.
The new show will be called “The Deuce.”

Simon old The Hollywood Reporter, “You don’t want to make porn to critique porn because that would be a venal journey—nor do you want to look down on people because that also is fairly dishonest. You really have to land it in such a way where it’s a story about people and it’s a story about markets—about the moment where something became legal and profitable and what happens to people in that environment when markets prevail.”
Simon is developing the show with his long time collaborator George Pelecanos.
