Alleged serial killer Robert Durst’s family is getting into the legal marijuana business. While Rob sits in prison awaiting trial on murder charges, his brother Douglas Durst is expanding the Durst empire — known mostly for real estate — into medical marijuana.
The Dursts are now partnering with the Greater New York Hospital Association in an effort to become one of five licensed medical marijuana growers in New York state. The New York Health Department is expected to select who will get the 5 licenses to grow medical marijuana in the state within a month.

It is obviously a smart business move. There is a lot of money to be made from legalized marijuana in all of its forms. And as the various states seem to be moving in the direction of legalization one after the other, it is only a matter of time before the pot business overtakes alcohol and tobacco as one of America’s biggest industries.
A subsidiary of the non-profit GNYHA would grow the pot while Durst would handle the marketing and sales end of the operation.
“We know what our expertise is, ” GNYHA Ventures president Lee Perlman told the NY Post. “We needed to find a partner that had the infrastructure and the capital to make this very special.”
