Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff is promoting what some people might feel is a very radical idea: equal pay for men and women for the same work.
A lot has been said in the news recently about the disparity of income between men and women in America. The average person does not realize that women get paid less for the same work with the same seniority as their male counterparts.
Patricia Arquette made waves in February when she made comments about the problem during her acceptance speech, when receiving the best supporting actress Oscar for 2015 for her role in “About a Boy.”
The 50 year old entrepreneur who grew up in a Jewish family in the San Francisco area is reviewing the files of all of Salesforce’s more than 16, 000 employees to ensure that his company pays men and women equally.
Benioff cited as his inspiration for the move Salesforce’s Leyla Seka, senior vice president and GM of the Desk.com business unit. Benioff tweeted, “Thank you @LeylaSeka for inspiring me!” and “My job is to make sure that women are treated 100 percent equally at Salesforce in pay, opportunity and advancement.”
Seka retweeted the news adding, “I can’t help myself. I love it. @saravarnibright @BecsMay BRAVO!!! #Ilovelarry http://www.desk.com/meet-larry#launch …”
Benioff also told The Huffington Post, “Not a single one of my execs hires or promotes without evaluating every woman candidate.”
Meanwhile the businessman has also been tapped to deliver the commencement address at the graduation ceremonies of the University of California Berkley to be held on Saturday May 16th.
“In addition to being a successful entrepreneur and respected technology executive, Mr. Benioff has been an outspoken advocate for social justice as well as an innovative and generous philanthropist, ” said UC Berkley chancellor Nicholas Dirks. “He exemplifies what we at Berkeley hope to instill in our students: the desire to work hard, coupled with the desire to give back and support the greater good.”
