Jon Stewart Asks Daily Show Viewers to Give Successor Second Chance

“But I can say this, I think without hesitation, Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect. Or not.”

Jon Stewart on Monday night told viewers they would eventually see his successor Trevor Noah as “an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny individual, ” never mind the fat chicks and Jews his probably insulted on his Twitter account.

This was Stewart’s first “Daily Show” appearance since Noah’s “kerfuffle, ” as he put it. He started by saying “they have hired a new ‘Daily Show’ host. Mr. Trevor Noah is going to be hosting the show and I’m very excited about it, ” mentioned the “kerfuffle” on social media over Noah’s Twitter jokes, then pitched:

Sounded realistic enough. Or not.

Stewart continued: “Just as I earned your trust and respect. Or did not. Or sometimes earned it and then lost it. And then kind of got it back.”

He urged his audiences to give his successor “an opportunity to earn that trust and respect, ” because “my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny individual, and man, I think, you give him that time, and it’s going to be well worth it.”

“I’m excited for where he’s going to take this thing, ” Stewart said, promising: “I’m going to record ‘The Daily Show’ when he takes over.”
