Facebook acquired WhatsApp a year ago for more than $1 billion. It was a no brainer that the company would eventually integrate WhatsApp services and options into its own website and apps.
Meanwhile, Facebook revealed at its F8 developer conference in San Francisco that users will soon be able to make mobile payments using its messenger service. Affiliate businesses will be able to offer the service with their own apps and then users around the world will be able to use it to for on line payments.
The app for Facebook will be available for download from the other businesses.
Facebook has also just announced its new “Riff: Make Videos with Friends” service.
Riff allows users to make their own videos. The company explained that all one needs to do is create a topic, like #AprilFools, then a user’s friends can view it and choose to add their own clips on that topic.
Once a friend adds a clip to a video, your friend’s friends will also be shown the video in Riff and will be able to add to it. Facebook boasts that the potential pool of creative collaborators can grow exponentially from there, so a short video can become an inventive project between circles of friends that you can share to Facebook, or “anywhere on the internet, at any time.”
