Did Robert Durst Confess to Three Murders on The Jinx?

“What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

Deliberations Resume In Durst Trial

Robert Durst may have actually confessed to as many as three murders on the finale of HBO’s documentary series about him which aired Sunday night. The episode aired a day after the 71 year old was arrested on a warrant issued by Los Angeles County for the murder of Susan Berman in 2000.

Apparently Mr. Durst did not understand that the microphone which he was wearing for a segment of the documentary was still recording when he excused himself at one point to go to the bathroom. Durst was heard muttering to himself, “There it is. You’re caught. What a disaster.”

But the most damning and self-incriminating statement made by the suspected murderer was, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

The “them” was a reference to the three people Durst may have killed, including his first wife back in 1982.

Anyone who has ever watched “Law and Order” will of course know that these statements fall far short of an outright confession. However, when added to other evidence they could be enough to get a conviction if Durst should actually be tried for Berman’s murder.

It is not clear yet if the producers of the documentary provided a copy of the tape to authorities before the episode aired and if that was a factor in the decision to issue the arrest warrant against Durst.

Los Angeles authorities reopened the case of Berman’s murder after new evidence against Durst was revealed in the previous week’s episode.

Durst was suspected of not only murdering his own wife but of also killing his friend Susan Berman in Los Angeles. In an earlier episode of the documentary series it was explained that Los Angeles police discovered Berman’s dead body in her home only after they received a letter written in block letters in the mail telling them to look for it.

Durst’s stepson Sareb Kaufman revealed in the fifth episode of the six part documentary series that he found an envelope with a letter written by his stepfather to Berman in 1999, which used the same type of block letters.

It also included the same misspelling of the name Beverly Hills as “Beverely Hills.”
