Israeli firm Powermat Technologies, which develops technology that allows smartphone users to wirelessly charge their devices (by placing them on a special charging mat), announced a strategic collaboration with Samsung on wireless power technologies, to optimize Samsung devices for the fast-growing Powermat Network. The first fruit of this collaboration is the inclusion of PMA-compatible Powermat wireless charging in the Galaxy s6.
Powermat and Samsung plan to collaborate in embedding Powermat wireless charging into a growing number of devices in the future to deliver convenient wireless charging to its consumers.

By embedding Powermat wireless charging into the Galaxy s6, the company declares that consumers will be able to seamlessly access any of the growing number of wireless charging ‘hotspots’ in public venues across the world. This includes select U.S. Starbucks locations, as part of Powermat’s national rollout. Other venues where consumers can simply place their phones on a Powermat charging spot to get free wireless charging include select McDonald’s locations, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf stores, and Delta Airline Lounges among other US and international venues.
“Samsung is a world leader in developing state-of-the-art devices and a true visionary company in adopting wireless charging for mass distribution, ” said Thorsten Heins, CEO of Powermat Technologies. “Being embedded into the Galaxy s6 is a major first step in what we believe will be a groundbreaking alliance between our two companies to benefit consumers worldwide.”
“We are very pleased to bring the Galaxy s6, the world’s first embedded wireless charging solution that supports any wireless charging pad available in the market, ” said Peter Koo, Senior Vice President of Samsung Technology Strategy Team.
“Through close engineering together with Powermat, our customers will be able to enjoy the hassle-free, convenient wireless charging anywhere, anytime.”
Powermat describes itself as a pioneer and leader of the wireless power industry. The company’s technology was formally adopted by the PMA, and is the platform of choice for such global leaders as Duracell, General Motors, AT&T and Starbucks.
