Michael Bloomberg Sheds Light on Solar Power at New Delhi Conference

India plans to dramatically increase its solar power capacity

Michael Bloomberg gave the keynote speech at a renewable energy conference in New Delhi. He said India was “incredibly well-placed to capitalize on the benefits of renewable energy, ” according to agmentalminer.com.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed a commitment to expanding renewable energy, and has projected to install 100 gigawatts of solar power across the country by 2022. Bloomberg noted that with the large amount of solar radiation India is exposed to and the relatively minimal infrastructure needed, solar is a great option for the country.

PM Narendra addressed the conference and said that India is graduating from megawatts to gigawatts with its production and is striving to make solar and wind power more affordable. Former Vice President Al Gore also gave a speech at the conference.

Michael Bloomberg is also investing millions into “smart cities” worldwide in an effort to repair infrastructure and to make cities more safe, livable and efficient, according to the Times of India.The Bloomberg Foundation has already chosen Mumbai as one of its targets for funds to improve road safety, given the number of traffic accidents in the Indian metropolis and the eagerness of local authorities to implement reforms.
