The 27 year old daughter of the much more famous former Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne, who has a Jewish maternal grandfather, has had problems with her co-host since the sudden death of the show’s previous host Joan Rivers last fall.
Her mother Sharon tweeted, “@KellyOsbourne, I am so proud of you. You can never be bought. You always wear your heart on your sleeve. #ProudToBeYourMum.”
Her exit is said to be related to a strained – to say the least – relationship with her co-host Giuliana Rancic. Osbourne was infuriated by comments which Rancic had made about singer Zendaya’s hair at the Oscars. Rancic said that she smells like a hippie pot smoker.
Osbourne, a friend of the singer, was infuriated and went on a series of Twitter rants.
“Im giving everyone involved 24 hours to make it right or the world will hear how I really feel. contactually Im not allowed to speak!”
And, “I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT. I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW!”
Rancic did make an on air apology and this was followed by another Osbourne Tweet which read, “It takes a strong women to apologize & makes a forgiving women even stronger! #ThisTooShallPass.”
An insider was quoted in US Magazine as saying about what happened when the comment was first filmed, “They did the Zendaya segment three times. Three different takes. On the first two takes, Kelly said ‘Guys, we can’t say this. Zendaya is a friend of the show.'” (An E! rep denied that there were three takes, saying, “There was only one take of Giuliana’s comments. Kelly did let the group know Zendaya is a friend of hers.”
The E! Network released a statement which read, “Kelly Osbourne is departing E!’s Fashion Police to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers. Fashion Police will return as scheduled on Monday, March 30, at 9 p.m., and no decisions have been made on her replacement.”
For her part Osbourne has yet to make any comment on the matter.
