Patricia Arquette is suffering from somewhat of a backlash over her feminist comments during her speech accepting this year’s Oscar for the best supporting actress of 2015.
We predicted that this would happen in our coverage of her winning the award.

For the record Arquette said, “To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation. We have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.’’
Some famous women liked what they heard including former speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi who tweeted, “Amen! “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all in the United States of America. – Patricia Arquette.”
Hilary Clinton said, “We all cheered at Patricia Arquette’s speech at the Oscars because she’s right. It’s time to have wage equality once and for all.”
But a lot of people were confused by her words. Columnists in publications as varied as USA Today and the New York Daily News have pointed out inconstancies in the statistics on wage inequality. They argue that it is not about equal pay as much as it is about the difference in career paths that women choose.
But even if that is true women movie stars like Arquette are undeniably paid less than their male co-stars.
But Arquette further complicated the issue with comments which she made backstage after accepting her Oscar. The Boyhood star said, “It’s time for all the women in America, and all the men that love women and all the gay people and all the people of color that we’ve all fought for to fight for us now.”
This annoyed gays and minorities because it implied that they do not care about women’s issues.
The 43 year old actress has since tweeted, “If you want to RT @TheDemocrats and @GOP We want to see action on #EqualPay and #ERA Women will not wait any more. What are you going to do?”
“The question is this do you think Women should have the “privilege: to make #EqualPAy. 158 million women in the U.S are wondering…”
In response to those who pointed out that she herself is rich Arquette tweeted, “My children are not living below the poverty line. That does’t mean I don’t care about the kids who are. DO YOU? Then help their moms.”
