Gay Jewish comedian Billy Eichner was the Virgil to Conan O’Brien’s Dante in a tour through the disco-ball studded Inferno of gay hookup site Grindr, although Conan, like the disco balls, stayed pretty much inside the van, according to Uproxx.
Conan O’Brien, who is straight and has been married to a woman “for years, ” as he said on his show, gave Grindr a try for fun. Billy Eichner said Grindr is like Tinder, but more honest. While on Tinder, people pretend to meet for a relationship but really want some cheap encounter, on the gay alternative, Grindr, there is no pretense about the purpose of the meeting.

When in the midst of selecting a name, Billy Eichner hit on the frank “Frecklefucker” for Conan, who wasn’t sure whether he would be recognized. He garnered some interested available guys right away, and met with his intended in a supermarket parking lot. Conan drove up in a van with Cher and Liza Minnelli painted on the side. Viewers were treated to an interior of the van, which featured disco lights and a bowl of condoms. When Conan’s new friend appeared, he identified gay icon Cher correctly, but drew a blank at Liza Minnelli. Getting bashful when the bowl of condoms were passed around.
Conan summed up his experience, “It wasn’t a love connection or a hook up, but I made a new friend.”
