The Nathan Cummings Foundation gives out $18 million in grants, and its objectives, in terms of the environment, include increasing availability of green energy, reducing greenhouse gases and alleviating poverty.
Nathan Cummings was born in 1896 to Lithuanian immigrants and founded the Consolidated Foods group, which later became known as Sara Lee. He became an art collector and owned many impressionist paintings as well as those by the 20th century masters. Cummings made contributions the the nation’s largest art museums and Jewish causes, and the Nathan Cummings Foundation was founded in 1949.
