After 24 years as Chairman of Carnegie Halls’ Board of Trustees, Sanford I. Weill is stepping down and will be replaced by philanthropist Ronald O. Perelman.

This doesn’t mean that Weill’s 32 years working at the institution that is synonymous with the finest music is over. He will be taking the position as President of of the board as only the second person to have that role since it was founded with the first president, the late violinist Isaac Stern. Roland Perelman has been a trustee for Carnegie Hall for 27 years and has served as vice chairman since 2012.

Sandy Weill told Yahoo news of how Isaac Stern was “an important mentor to me, passing on his passion for this amazing place. The two of us shared a vision for what the Hall could mean one day as an important center for music education and a pace to bring people together through the power of music as a universal language.”

Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s executive and artistic director, said “We’re delighted that he has accepted his new role as our Chairman, and I’m excited to begin our work together, ensuring that the Hall continues to serve audiences and music in the very best way for many more generations to come.”

Round Perelman is the founder of MacAndrews & Forbes which own Mafco, Revlon Group, Scientific Games Corporation, SIGA Technologies and more.
