The Gunman is Sean Penn’s first action movie role in nearly ten years, but he and Charlize Theron made a repeat role, this time, with an additional appearance as a couple.
At the premiere of the film, Sean Penn was with the 39 year old actress, and their friendship seems to have blossomed into a relationship, according to Hellomagazine. While 54 year old Penn, whose previous spouses include Madonna and Robin Wright, said he would marry again, Theron says she will take the long-term relationship but may skip the white dress and the ceremony.

The Gunman features an assassin whose last job comes back to haunt him. Penn stars alongside Javier Bardem of Spain and Idris Elba, who may be the next James Bond. The film is based on a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette, and was directed by Pierre Morel, who told channel 24, “I always say, if a movie is driven by action, then I’m interested. A smart movie with action in it, then I’m all for it.”
Penn’s adventures and heroism in real life could be an smart action movie with a moral. He courageously rescued Orthodox Jewish businessman Jacob Ostreicher from a brutal Bolivian prison where he was confined without being formally charged. A year later, Penn still takes care of Ostreicher from time to time, as the former prisoner suffers from post-traumatic stress. Sean Penn, who has Jewish ancestry on his father’s side, told Military.com, when asked why he was so attached to Ostreicher, “What can I say? He’s likeable.” Ostreicher said, “He is fully responsible, Sean, for saving my life. He is much more than a friend.”
