Emile Hirsch’s lawyers say he doesn’t remember attacking a female executive at Sundance because he was drunk, but he expresses regret over the incident, as reported by Norfolk Daily News. The attack happened at a nightclub in Utah when Hirsch, who had a few too many, started harassing Daniele Bernfeld, an executive at Paramount Pictures and asked why she thought she was “so tough.”
Hirsch then called Bernfeld a “rich kid who should not be at Sundance, ” and backed off a bit before returning for a second round that involved grabbing Bernfeld from behind and putting her in a chokehold. She reports she might have blacked out.

Hirsch, who was promoting his film “Ten Thousand Saints” at Sundance, a picture about a teenager who lives with his father after his friend has a drug overdose, has been in rehab since the January 25th attack, and his lawyers say he going sober to ensure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again. Hirsch is scheduled to appear in court in March, and in addition to facing an assault charge, might face a misdemeanor for public intoxication.
