Google, Twitter, Team Up to Offer Tweets in Google Search Results

Google has entered into a new partnership with twitter. Now a person’s tweets will show up on Google searches made of their names, Bloomberg reported.

Soon your tweets will be visible within Google’s lists of search results. This will moot the need for typing in “Twitter” in addition to someone’s name for searching for the person if you want to link to his or her Twitter feeds.

Under the new deal Google will have access to all of the tweets made by all of Twitter’s 284 million users. This will be simpler than how Google previously needed to crawl Twitter’s site for the information.

Is this good or bad news? The answer depends on how you look at it.

This will certainly be bad news who do not wish their tweets to be made so public and who feel that Google already has too far a reach. But people who use Twitter want their statements o be read by as many people as possible. That’s the whole point.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has already confessed, however, that his company makes it too easy for stalkers to “troll” its users. An internal memo which he wrote was obtained by The Verge. In it he said, “We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform and we’ve sucked at it for years. It’s no secret and the rest of the world talks about it every day. We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day.”

But people use Twitter as a personal blog and so Twitter users, for the most part, should be happy with this news. Now it will be easier to get their various “brainfarts” and other nonsensical comments out there.

How many times did a certain celebrity or politician rush to take down a stupid Tweet which they wished they had never made?

Now we will all be able to see them much sooner, mooting attempts to delete them from Twitter.
