Mark Cuban Defends Seahawks’ Pass Call

Cuban is used to people second guessing the decisions of sports coaches.

Seahawks' Pass 3

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has been lambasted by football fans around the world for the play that he called with only 26 seconds left in the Super Bowl. But he has gotten some support from a very unlikely source: Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Down by 4 points, the Seahawks could only win the game, not tie it. With less than a yard to go to the goal line the team was almost assured a touchdown. There was plenty of time left to try a throw to deep in the end zone which. If that play had failed then the Seahawks quarterback would easily have been able to throw the ball away or run out of bounds, both of which would have stopped the clock.

But most people feel he should have just called a running play to force the ball into the end zone.

In defense of Carroll he said, “If it was me and that happened, I’d be pissed, but I wouldn’t be mad at the coach and I wouldn’t be mad at the call. “If they ran it and got stopped, I would be mad. Because then that means you p—— out.

Cuban aded, “You got to go with what got you there. The randomness of plays, that’s what got them there. The dude that was the impact receiver didn’t catch a pass all season. So by definition they’re not a team that plays to the odds.”

“If you play to the odds, you’re going to lose. I wouldn’t be mad at the coach or the call. If they’d ran it and got stopped, then I’d be mad. All these people saying it was the worst call ever, they’re idiots. Never take advice from someone who doesn’t have to live with the consequences.”

Cuban is used to people second guessing the decisions of sports coaches. It has been done all the time to the staff of his Mavericks and himself.
On all of the second guessing of Carroll’s play call being done by just about everyone, Cuban was livid.

“Those people that said, ‘Oh, it’s the worst call ever, ’ they’re idiots. Never take advice from someone who doesn’t have to live with the consequences. So what I say is worth what it’s worth, but they’ve never been in a situation where you’ve got to make a call where everything, literally everything, is on the line. If you’re afraid to go with what’s gotten you there, you’re not long for this league.”
