Melissa Rivers is suing the doctors at Yorkville Endoscopy in New York City for malpractice and on the claims that didn’t do enough to save her mother, comedian Joan Rivers, life. However, both doctors implicated, Dr. Renuka Bankulla and Dr. Gwen Korovin, are poking holes in each others’ account of what happened in the hours leading up to the death of the 81 year old celebrity.
Joan Rivers, had almost countless elective plastic surgeries without incident, suffered from hypoxic arrest when the supply of oxygen was cut off during the medical procedure, a biopsy on Rivers throat prior to surgery, according to Inquisitr. Melissa Rivers claimed that Bankulla, who did not regularly work at Yorkville, did not have a “crash cart” to rescue Rivers when her breathing and heart rate drop. Bankulla has fired papers countering this claim, and says a crash cart was in the operating room. Melissa says, according to the New York Post, that a muscle relaxant could have saved her mother, but Bankulla countered that the laryngospasm was already broken and she was getting enough oxygen through a mask.

Bankulla turned the tables against Dr. Gwen Korovin, a celebrity throat doctor, who claimed that she remained steadfastly by Rivers until the ambulance arrived. Bankulla alleges she made a run for it as soon as Rivers’ vital signs went “haywire.” While Korovin and Bankulla may disagree over each other’s conduct during the emergency, they both deny malpractice allegations.
