The trailer for Adam Sandler’s next movie “The Cobbler” has been released.
Written and directed by Thomas McCarthy, the movie stars Adam Sandler as Max Simkin, a man who repairs shoes in the same New York shop that has been in his family for generations. One day he stumbles upon a magical heirloom that allows him to step into the lives of his customers and see the world in a new way just by wearing their shoes. “Sometimes walking in another man’s shoes is the only way one can discover who they really are, ” is the film’s tag line.

But haven’t we seen this before? How many times will Sandler try to bring in audiences with a gimmick movie? He did the same thing with “Click, ” where a magic remote control allowed him to fast forward through the boring parts of his life. In “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” he pretended to be gay and married Kevin James as a scam to get marriage benefits and in “Jack and Jill” he played himself and his twin sister.
When was the last time that Adam Sandler had a hit.
In the 90 second trailer you can watch Sandler as he first discovers his new ability. Even Sandler sees himself as the other person when he looks in the mirror.
One disturbing part comes when uses the ability to pretend to be a beautiful woman’s boyfriend, goes up to her apartment and sees her naked in the shower. It is not revealed how far he goes with the sham, but considering all of the problems today with sexual assault it just does not seem funny.
Things get complicated when Sandler gets involved with some stolen money.
Dustin Hoffman plays the wise old man who explains everything to Sandler and Steve Buscemi, of course, plays the best friend who tries to understand what is going on.
The man Forbes called the most overpaid actor in Hollywood for a studio’s return on investment should be looking elsewhere to save his career.
The movie is due out on March 13th.
Sandler has two more movies coming out this year: “Pixels” in July and “Hotel Transylvania 2” in September.
