It’s official. The NFL’s Atlanta Falcons which are owned by the Jewish businessman Arthur Blank, introduced Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as its new head coach today.
Quinn, who signed a five year contract, becomes the team’s 16th head coach in its 47 year history.

The team failed the make the playoffs this year after going 6-10 and losing its last two games.
Now that the Super Bowl is over, focus is switching to how the season’s losing teams are trying to improve for next year. Since the Patriots’ and Seahawks’ seasons have officially ended, their staff members are free to sign with other teams. The NFL has a rule which requires each of its 32 franchises to allow an assistant coach out of his contract should he be offered a chance to become the head coach or general manager of another team.

As we got to know Dan during the interview process, it became clear that he has a definitive plan for our football team and what it will take to win on a consistent basis. He also has a proven ability to develop players by maximizing their individual strengths. For these and many other reasons, Dan became our top pick, and I’m confident our players, staff, fans and community will be proud to have him represent the Falcons.
Blank added, “I would like to personally thank Seahawks coach Pete Carroll for his patience and support during our head coach search. I’m sure the Seahawks will be sorry to see Dan leave, but no one has been more supportive of this opportunity for Dan than Pete.”
