Extell gets Approval for New Manhattan Residential Tower

1010 Park Avenue LPC Submission revised design 2015-01-05.indd

Gary Barnett’s Extell Development Company god some good news this week. New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the real estate developer’s plan for a 16 story condominium project to be constructed at 1010 Park Avenue.

The main bone of contention for opponents of the project was that it includes the demolition of an old church rectory building on the same block. But Park Avenue Christian Church will be preserved.

The new residential tower will rise to 210 feet and will offer public spaces to the church for its functions.

Extell agreed to pay the church $25 million last year for the right to tear down the old rectory and to build right alongside it. This was reported to include a more than $2 million endowment for a new preschool and a new $8.75 million church annex.
