Jeffrey Tambor Wins Golden Globe

Jeffrey Tambor transparent

Jeffrey Tambor has won the Golden Globe award for best actor in a comedy series. He won it for his role in Amazon’s new original series Transparent.

More of a dramedy than a straight comedy, Transparent is about yet another dysfunctional Los Angeles family, in which Tambor plays the patriarch. The family has to deal with the revelations that father, Gaby, is transsexual, and that one sister is a lesbian.

But winning a Golden Globe certainly does not make up for Tambor’s having gone 0-6 at the Emmys. He was nominated for his roles in the shows Arrested Development and The Larry Sanders Show.

While The Emmys are chosen by thousands of an actor’s peers, The Golden Globes are chosen by 90 members of the Hollywood foreign press corps who are notoriously open to bribes. They accept many gifts from the studios and actors seeking nominations which has led to many a panned film getting Golden Globe nods.

The actor dedicated his award to the transgender community. He started his acceptance speech by saying, “This is big. This is much bigger than me. Thank you magnificent, stellar, innovative cast. You led me all the way. You told me all the way. You inspired me all the way. You led me through the steps to find more of Jeffrey than I’ve ever known in my entire life.”

Tambor concluded with, “I would like to dedicate to my performance and this award to the transgender community. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your courage. Thank you for your inspiration. Thank you for your patience and thank you for letting us be a part of the change.”
