Speaker of the New York State Assembly Sheldon Silver has been under a cloud of scandal for some time now, and one of the key players involved in this story is 100 year old real estate mogul Leonard Litwin. The latter is a client of the law firm Goldberg & Iryami which, according to local media, has paid out substantial amounts of money to Silver over the years.
Litwin’s dealings with Silver are currently under investigation by the FBI. He gave more than $4.3 million to multiple New York political campaigns having funneled the funds through no fewer than 27 different LLCs. Any attempt to hide political donations through intermediaries is always sure to raise an eyebrow among law enforcement officials who investigate corruption on any level.

The law firm’s main business is representing landlords in tax disputes. It is also a donor to New York State local political campaigns and employs lobbyists in Albany.
Litwin is the President and CEO of Long Island-based Glenwood Management and according to Crain’s he also donated $1 million to New York governor Andrew Cuomo. Reports also suggest he gave Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s campaign about $240, 000 and NY Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli $130, 000. The New York State elections were held last November.
