British entrepreneur Brent Hoberman is one of several business leaders who are going to be honored a CBE, or Commander of the Order of the British Empire, for contribution to the British business community, as reported by the Telegraph. Hoberman started LastMinute.com with Baroness Lane Fox in 1998, and it was one of the rare dot.coms to emerge in good health after the dot.com crisis in 1999 and 2000.
Lastminute was sold to Travelocity in 2005, and Hoberman has contributed his ingenuity to the development of several start ups, including made.com. He also developed the interior design site, mydeco.com. which used 3D technology to enable visitors to design their own rooms. Hoberman serves as governor of the University of the Arts London and is non-executive board director of the Guardian Media group. In 2009, he was selected as one of the Young Global Leaders of the U.K. Hoberman’s inspiration in business came from his father and grandfather who expanded 650 clothing stores from a single location.
