Keith Block Puts the Sales in Salesforce.com

Keith Block

Oracle’s loss was Salesforce.com‘s gain, as Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff hired Keith Block away from competitor Oracle. Forbes reports that Block may become “heir apparent to the Salesforce throne, ” and Benioff has said Block is “the best sales executive the enterprise software industry has ever seen.” Ben Kepes of Forbes discussed his impressions at the annual Dreamforce conference, where he met up with Block.

Block’s plans are for aggressive expansion, to trounce its competitor SAP and to have a $20 billion run rate. This is quadruple the company’s current run rate, and Block expects to achieve this goal through customer responsiveness, “speaking the particular language of different industries, ” and building an ecosystem. Another point of emphasis is to integrate Salesforce’s own sales performance with that of its partners and see partners as an essential ingredient for success. At the conference Block spoke about international expansion, vertical offerings and data centers.
