While Sony exec Amy Pascal is hanging onto her job for dear life after scandalous emails were leaked, Rush Limbaugh is going ballistic over the prospect of a black James Bond. If given the role, Idris Elba will be the first actor of color to play the legendary spy created by Ian Fleming. In one of the leaked e-mails, Pascal sounded determined to cast Elba in the role, but that was greeted with a tongue lashing from Rush Limbaugh, who insisted James Bond always was and always will be white and Scottish.
Limbaugh doesn’t seem to realize that Sean Connery was the only Scotsman to play James Bond, and Ian Fleming only identified Bond as Scottish after the first film, “Dr. No” was released. Elba released a rather wry Tweet following the conservative shock jock’s hissy fit. Elba had a zany look on his face and wrote “Isn’t 007 supposed to be handsome?”

We’ll see how this plays out as Amy Pascal is hanging onto her Sony job by her fingernails after the hacked emails revealed her criticism of A-list celebrities and even some remarks about President Obama that were deemed as racist. Nonetheless, she wanted Elba for the role of Bond, even as she said that films with black protagonists don’t tend to do well in overseas box offices, and blamed racism abroad.
