Who Will Head NY’s Thruway Authority following Milstein’s Departure?

Howard Milstein

After Howard Milstein resigned after four years as Thruway chief, many New Yorkers are wondering who Andrew Cuomo is going to choose for the position. Many questioned Milstein’s credentials in the first place, and it is no wonder that he is leaving the position to concentrate on his many business interests.

The Thruway is facing financial problems, and may have to raise the price on tolls, but that might not be enough to rescue it. The thruway currently has a $39 million budget deficit. Milstein says he had been planning to leave for weeks prior to the announcement, but the November blizzard that left the Thruway vacant of cars for days certainly left the authority in a difficult position.

While it seems many of Milstein’s problems were inherited and not created by him, many New Yorkers look forward to a change of the guard and hope his successor will be well-qualified.
