Fresco News, which calls itself an “Instagram for the news, ” is the brainchild of a nineteen year old kid named John Meyer. The budding entrepreneur followed in the footsteps of self-made high tech icons like Bill Gates, dropping out of a computer science program at NYU to pursue the development of his new company.
The company helps amateur photographers get their pictures published by the large news organizations. It does so by providing the photographers with a platform where they can upload their photos and Fresco News then cuts deals with the news agencies on their behalf.

“They’re just happy to get their images out there, ” Meyer told the New York Post, referring to the amateur photographers. He also said that the company expects to bring in $5 million in funding this coming spring. Meyer intends to use the funds to, “scale up the company very quickly.”
Meyer got started writing iPhone apps and says that he has been able to support himself since his sophomore year of high school. One of his creations was the successful app “Perfect Shot” for iOS 7 which allows the user to detect each individual set of eyes and smiles in a group photo to, “take one single perfect shot!”
Meyers told Business Insider in September that he has no intention of working for someone else’s company; even though, he has gotten plenty of offers. “I get emails from recruiters all the time, and this past summer an offer to intern at Apple, ” he said. “I am, at heart, an entrepreneur. I won’t be happy working for someone else.”
