Mario Balotelli, an Italian footballer for Liverpool, has pleaded guilty for posting an inappropriate Instagram message, as reported by the Telegraph. In his defense, Balotelli said he was trying to make a point about racism and anti-semitism which was misunderstood. It is possible that the player could be suspended and/or fined for the action.

Balotelli posted an image for video game character Super Mario and the text said, “Don’t be racist. Be like Mario. He’s an Italian plumber created by Japanese people who speaks English, looks like a Mexican, jumps like a black man and grabs a coin like a Jew.”
Balotelli deleted the post just minutes after putting it up, but he still could face a penalty. Balotelli is continuing to train with the Liverpool team, but a ban might not have a huge impact on the team, since he has yet to score a single goal during the season so far.
