David Werner is now the biggest buyer of real estate in New York City so far in 2014, as reported by Real Deal. He has purchased Ernst & Young headquarters at 5 Times square for $1.5 billion, a couple of office towers for $2.37 billion, and paid $900 million for the Socony Mobil building.
Along with Rubin Schron and the Cohen family, Werner bought land under 100 West 57th Street. Kenneth Patton, Dean emeritus of NYU’s Schack Institute of Real Estate described Werner’s eccentric style. When ever he goes into a real estate deal, he carries two t-shirts. One has a smiley face and says “Aggravation Free, ” expressing confidence in the ability to close the deal. Another is a frowny face that says “Free Aggravation, ” warning sellers against finding another buyer. According to JP Udates, Esastdil Secured Doug Harmon described Werner as a wizard who “plies his trade with maniacal restlessness that is as efficient as it is effective. He’s a real quick study, and he’s made billions of dollars for investors.”
