‘America’s Deadliest DA’ Lynne Abraham Runs for Mayor of Philidelphia

A woman who has been called, “America’s Deadliest DA” by New York Times Magazine, Lynne Abraham is running to become Mayor of Philadelphia.

She would be the city’s first female mayor and has made headlines as an impressive anti-crime prosecutor for the city. Lynne Abraham spent 20 years as the city’s district attorney, and the 73 year old is a partner in a city law firm.

She may face opposition from Democrats Kenneth Trujillo and Terry Gillen. State senator Hardy Williams is expected to announce his candidacy as well. There is not expected to be a meaningful Republican opponent since Philly is overwhelmingly Democratic. The current mayor, Michael Nutter, a Democrat, is not allowed to seek another term.

In her tenure, she has dealt with cases of Catholic archbishops accused of covering up child molestation, and she also convicted counterculture guru Ira Einhorn, who fled to Europe after murdering an ex girlfriend.
