The allegation by a woman that she was raped in a Ferguson, Missouri prison when she was three month’s pregnant gives indication of a cycle of violence occurring in the Midwestern town. Ferguson made headlines over the shooting of Michael Brown by a police officer Darren Wilson. The Justice Department is investigating the Ferguson police department, as community members say the local police has been characterized by racial profiling and excessive force, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.
A woman who calls herself J.W has filed a lawsuit and said she was pulled over in October 2013 for having an expired license plate. She was arrested when she gave a false name, was booked in prison, and Hayden told her “you smell good. This will teach you a lesson, ” before raping her. She gave the police a hair she had taken from Hayden, and DNA results confirm it belongs to him.

J.W is suing the police because of mental anguish, fear of police and anxiety about sex. Belvis Schock, attorney for J.W., said, “There are other incidents in the city of Ferguson that would lead one to believe there is inadequate supervision and a pattern of violence. I have some evidence.”
“She wants compensation, ” Schock continued, “My client doesn’t want to be part of any public disturbances. She wants not to be identified. She wants her privacy.”
