Recipients of Breakthrough Prizes in Life Sciences, Physics and Mathematics were announced, and each recipient receives $3 million.
The Breakthrough Prize in Physics was a collaboration led by Saul Perlmutter, Brian P. Schmidt and Adam Reiss. A total of $36 Million million will be shared among the participants. The winners of the Mathematics prize were previously announced and include Simon Donaldson, Maxim Kontsevich, Jacob Lurie, Terence Tao, and Richard Taylor.

The Life Science winners discovered a new kind of gene and a Parkinson’s treatment. The awards were presented at an exclusive Gala that will be broadcast on the Science Channel and the Discovery Channel. Awards were presented by Sergey Brin, Anne Wojcicki, Jack Ma, Cathy Zhang, Yuri and Julia Milner, Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. Yuri Milner said, “Most of our time is spent on mundane matters. Tonight, we thought about the molecules of life, the structure of prime numbers, and the fate of the universe. It was an uplifting occasion for everyone.”
