Revealed: WhatsApp’s Koum and Acton Get $9 Billion in Facebook Takeover Deal

Facebook’s acquisition of the messaging platform WhatsApp was a big win for Jan Koum and Brian Acton, WhatsApp Founders, as reported by ABC. They received a total of $9 billion or 116 million shares of Facebook as part of the deal.

The details emerged in a regulatory founding after the acquisition closed last month. Facebook acquired WhatsApp for a total of $22 billion. Details of the exact amount of the distribution were not announced until the latest filing.

Jan Koum, a Jewish immigrant from the Ukraine, was once reduced to relying on welfare. His fortunes have certainly changed after inventing the WhatsApp, and he has received 76.4 million shares worth $5.8 billion. He is now the fourth largest shareholder in Facebook after CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Vanguard and Fidelity Management. Acton owns 39.7 million shares worth $3 billion.
