Shia LaBeouf Converted to Christianity, or He Could Just Be Nuts

Shia LaBeouf

Jewish emerging Hollywood star Shia LaBeouf has converted to Christianity after he found God while working on his new film Fury, as he told Interview Magazine.

LaBeouf said he decided to reject Judaism and become a Christian while playing a devout Christian character on the set of Fury:

I found God doing Fury. I became a Christian man, and not in a fucking bullshit way—in a very real way. I could have just said the prayers that were on the page. But it was a real thing that really saved me. And you can’t identify unless you’re really going through it. It’s a full-blown exchange of heart, a surrender of control. And while there’s beauty to that, acting is all about control. So that was a wild thing to navigate. I had good people around me who helped me. Brad [Pitt] was really instrumental in guiding my head through this.

LaBeouf was born in Los Angeles, the only child of Shayna (née Saide) and Jeffrey Craig LaBeouf. His mother is Jewish, and his father, who is Cajun, is Christian.

In the past, LaBeouf described himself as both Jewish and Christian, saying he was raised around “both sides.” He had a Bar Mitzvah ceremony, and was also baptized. So he’s been covering all the bases.

Back in June, JBN reported that LaBeouf, the downwardly spiraling star of the first three Transformers movies, had been forcibly removed from a Broadway theater in New York in the middle of a performance of the musical Cabaret. LaBeouf was seen being escorted out of the Studio 54 Theater in handcuffs by the NYPD.

Apparently he had disrupted the performance by shouting, using obscene language and then became belligerent with the theater’s security guards when they asked him to leave. As if all that was not enough, the 28 year old actor also began to smoke; even though, everyone knows that smoking is now illegal in all public places in all of New York State.

When under arrest he reportedly yelled at the police officers saying, “fuck you! Do you know who the fuck I am?”

In September, Shia LaBeouf pleaded guilty to trespassing and disorderly conduct. His lawyers said he has been getting treatment for alcohol since his June arrest, and if he remains in treatment for 3 months with no repeat incident in 6 months, the case would be dismissed.

Shia LaBeouf brown bag

Whether or not because of drinking, LaBeouf has displayed some odd behaviors this year, including admitting lifting lines directly from a Daniel Clowes graphic novel, getting up and walking out of a news conference for the film “Nymphomaniac Volume 1″ at the Berlin Film Festival, and appearing at the red carpet ceremony with a brown paper bag over head. On the bag was written, “I’m not famous anymore.”

Turns out he had bought the bag for a performance art installation titled #IAMNOTSORRY, in which he was sitting in a chair with the bag over his head and crying.

Oh, and he hired a skywriter to apologize for plagiarizing Daniel Clowes, and we understand he plagiarized the apology, too.

“I’ve been going through an existential crisis, ” LaBeouf told Interview Magazine. “If you look at my behavior, it’s been motivated by a certain discourse. Metamodernism has influenced a lot of my action in the public in this last year and a half—the idea of diametrically opposed ideas happening all at once: the irony and the sincerity, birth and death, the immediacy and the obsolescence.”

So that, finally, in this reporter’s opinion, if the multitude of Christian folks out there wants to embrace Shia LaBeouf as a Christian, I think we should let them.
