I24 News pointed out that the move has made Israel the first Western country to implement serious safety precautions against the Western African Ebola pandemic.

Israel’s medical establishment has been on high alert even before the most recent Health Ministry move. On Saturday, an Israeli who had recently returned from a visit to Africa arrived at a hospital emergency room in Naharia, northern Israel, and the staff immediately imposed an “Ebola protocol, ” Israel’s Channel 2 News reported.

The hospital staff later verified it had been a false alarm.

A month ago, a Nigerian employee at Shaarey Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem was quarantined in a pressure chamber after complaining about her health, strictly based on her citizenship.

She, too, was released shortly thereafter.
