SnapChat Will Soon Have Ads

Snapchat

SnapChat CEO Evan Spiegel announced that the photo messaging app will have advertisements, but these will not intrude on user experience or compromise personal information, as reported by Techaeris. The move has been adopted in an effort to make the company profitable, and the ads will be non-targeted, but will be combined with photos and videos users share through the SnapChat Stories feature.

“They are not fancy, ” Spiegel said of the ads, “You just look at it if you want to look at it, and don’t if you don’t.”

Michael Bloomberg, founder of the news website and former New York Mayor, had some words of advice for Spiegel, “His challenge is always going to be that somebody else comes up with, instead of SnapChat, ChatSnap, and he’s got to find ways of not only making the technology better, but to stay au courant, to be in fashion … People use it because they use it. How you get this virtuous cycle is to some extent luck, to some extent, a really unique product and to some extent, being at the right place at the right time.”
