Did Kvetching over Zuckerberg’s Lavish SF Home Drive him to Hawaii?

7480 Koolau Road Hawaii

Disclaimer: It is only a rumor, but it may have legs. Perhaps it was all the kvetching about Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s feathering his lavish newlywed nest in Dolores Heights, San Francisco that might have driven him to buy a Hawaiian Compound, so the rumor goes as reported by sfist.com. The tenth richest man in the world and his wife Priscilla Chan may or may not have spent only $66 million on a beachfront estate on Kaua’i. More specifically, it is called the Kahuaina Plantation, but who knows what it grows. Perhaps it sprouts start-ups.

The figure of $66 million, in common folk’s currency, would be like someone with a savings of just over $1, 000 spending $2, given Zuckerberg’s $34.8 billion fortune. The lavish estate can hold 80 homesites and there is plenty of building space for development. There is no need to worry that he and his wife will leave San Francisco for good. He might just be emulating former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison’s significant land grab in Hawaii. But now, if he fetches more criticism over his embellishments in San Francisco, he can flee to Hawaii, and if he is made fun of for his extravagant developments in Hawaii, he can run back to San Francisco, and if he is attacked for both at once, he can always complain about it on the kvetch factory he invented:  Facebook.
