One of the most important summits on innovative technologies in tourism and travel, the Second Jerusalem International Tourism Summit will take place on May 28-29 at the Jerusalem International Convention Center.

The summit will focus on subjects such as Urban Tourism and Groundbreaking technologies and include leading speakers on the subject of tourism and innovation such as Sheldon Adelson — chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Richard Florida — Professor at the University of Toronto and New York University and the Senior Editor for The Atlantic, Michael Arad — Partner at Handel Architects and designer of the National September 11 Memorial at the World Trade Center site, Alison Copus — Vice President, marketing at TripAdvisor for Business, Hugh Aitken — UK Commercial Manager at easyJet and Uri Levine — Co-Founder and President of Waze.

Urban tourism focuses on bringing visitors to inner-city areas rather than the traditional historical sites and nature reserves. The idea aims at creating special visitor districts which combine various attractions such as cultural, sports, hospitality, shopping and amusement activities all in one clustered location to help stimulate the urban economy. With this new competitive advantage, the city can promote itself, create a unique yet strong local identity and pave its way into the global world.

“The combination of innovation and tourism, similar to cooperation between countries, are a prerequisite for the promotion of tourism across the globe, and we will continue to strengthen the two, ”  said Tourism Minister Uzi Landau in a statement in advance of the summit. Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat noted: “As a world leader in innovation and tourism, Jerusalem has broken numerous records for the number of foreign and domestic tourists arriving to the city.”

The Jerusalem International Tourism Summit (JITS) was initiated by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Tourism, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Jerusalem Development Authority in cooperation with the Hebrew University and the Jerusalem International Convention Center. The conference will focus on Planning Models for Urban Tourism and new tourism technologies while discussing the challenges and trends that influence world tourism.

The summit will bring together global leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and experts in the field of tourism to conduct panels on a wide range of subjects that affect tourism in general and urban tourism in particular. The gathering  will provide a business network offering important and influential discussions and connections within the industry. JITS presents Israel as a Start-Up Nation and Jerusalem as a leader of technology.

Tourism and economic ministers from different countries, mayors from around the world, world tourism experts, business leaders, entrepreneurs, academic and industry leaders, travel writers and bloggers will attend the various panels. http://jits2013.com/
