In her fourth time as director, Angelina Jolie will direct “Africa” a film about the efforts of paleoanthropologist and conservationist Richard Leakey to protect Africa’s elephants from ivory poaching. The film will be produced by David Ellison, son of Oracle founder, Larry Ellison, through his Sundance Productions, which also produced the recent “Terminator” and “Mission Impossible” series.
The screenplay is written by Eric Roth who wrote “Forrest Gump.” Leakey said his experience rescuing elephants from poachers left him “with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility.” Angelina Jolie says the project is important to her because, “I’ve felt a deep connection for Africa and its culture for much of my life.”
