HBO has released a large cluster of short teasers for “The Comeback, ” coming back (you got that?) in November.
Now, we love Lisa Kudrow and we love The Comeback, where she exhibits a rare capacity for vulnerability and vanity. But those teasers all begin with the audio of Kudrow’s Valerie begging for another take, from the original HBO series, followed by 10 seconds of a real clip, and then another slide. Why?

For those who haven’t seen “The Comeback, ” Kudrow plays former sitcom star Valerie Cherish, faded from the spotlight and willing to let a reality TV crew use her life as she pursues a little more fame. With the reality cameras a constant presence, Valerie is also starring in a new sitcom, where she is overshadowed by young, up-and-coming actors.
Kudrow’s portrayal of Valerie Cherish was brilliant, if occasionally hard to stomach. Apparently, the HBO audience was not impressed and the series was cut after one season.
Now Kudrow and co-executive producers Michael Patrick King and Dan Bucatinsky are bringing The Comeback back to HBO on Sunday, November 9 for an 8-episode series, which picks up a decade after the original series ended.
Valerie still doesn’t have a clue.
