Bruce Blakeman who lives in Long Island and is running for Congress, and was once married to Sir Paul McCartney’s current wife, Nancy Shevell, proposed marriage in an Israeli restaurant. He publicly popped the question to attorney Segal Magori when taking her out for a birthday dinner at Garbriela’s, a kosher Italian restaurant.
Blakeman is running for New York’s 4th Congressional District, as a Republican.

The 4th Congressional District is located in central and southern Nassau County. It includes the communities of Baldwin, Bellmore, East rockaway East Meadow, the Five Towns, Lynbrook, Floral Park, Franklin Square, Garden City, Hempstead, Long Beach, Malverne, Merrick, Mineola, Carle Place, New Hyde Park, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Roosevelt, Uniondale, West Hempstead and Westbury. Democrat Carolyn McCarthy has represented the district since 1997.
There are enough pro-Israel Jews living in these towns to make Blakeman’s dream a reality. But Republicans have not done well in NY State in recent years.
In his website statement, Blakeman says: “I decided to run because I believe we need to elect a member of congress who will be a check and balance to President Obama and the Democrats in congress, not someone who will just rubber stamp everything the President does.”
Thirty people were in the restaurant to witness the event, including Magori’s mother and other close relatives. Blakeman was in Israel to meet with leaders of the Israeli Defense Forces. So who says men can’t multi-task? Mazal Tov.
