Ian Ziering, star of the camp horror comedy thriller series “Sharknado” may be biting off more than he can chew with his demand for a pay raise. After saving the human race from sharks who find their way into unexpected places in “Sharknado” and “Sharknado 2: The Second One, ” he wants more than the measly $400, 000 he was given for the first installment of the made-for-TV-movie sensation. That is cheap by showbiz standards, but there is a good reason; the sharks are the stars, not the actors.
The Daily News reportssomeone close to Asylum, the studio that produces “Sharnado, ” said that if Ziering or his co-star get too demanding, “They’ll replace him. They’ll replace (co-star) Tara Reid. They are not essential to the story. No one is … the sharks are graphics, and everyone else is replaceable.”

Gone are the days when the likes of Alfred Hitcock would cast A-rated actors and actresses in horror flicks. But the art-form is different, with intentionally low budget and short-filming times; the last installment was made in just 19 days. “Sharknado 3” is expected next summer, but whether Ziering will return to slay sharks is a question mark. The actor was not too excited about the role initially, but he said his wife urged him to take the job because of the pay. If it is about remuneration for Ziering rather than the thrill of the shark chase, Asylum might prove to be equally unsentimental and throw him overboard.
